Overall we ranked #26 out of 78 entries and in the Audio category we placed #6!

    <a href="https://polymonic.bandcamp.com/album/sanctuary">Sanctuary by polymonic</a>

It was another 9 day game jam but unfortunately due to a number of circumstances our team did not finish our game in time. The team Discord got pretty quiet after that.

Instead of letting the tracks I made go unheard I decided to release them on Bandcamp for free as well as putting them up on itch.io as an Asset Pack for anybody to use in their game.

Sanctuary on Bandcamp

Dungeons of Daggorath

I believe the first dungeon crawler I ever played was Dungeons of Daggorath which featured an interesting mechanic where your character’s audible heart rate would speed up as you took more and more damage. Pretty impressive for a TRS-80 Color Computer 2!

The team included Substain and Roburab who I met in a previous game jam and really enjoy working with.

    <a href="https://polymonic.bandcamp.com/album/golem-guardians">Golem Guardians by polymonic</a>

The game jam was only 72 hours and we ended up with one level, so my musical contribution was the main menu and battle music.

I had to deal with some personal matters out of town during the weekend so I ended up making the action music on my laptop just using the computer keyboard. Now I’ve got my eye on a Komplete Kontrol M32 for future outings and the capability to work on music outdoors.

By the time I got back home we only had a few hours left, but that kind of pressure can often help you make decisions a lot faster!

The combination of the written steps in their Learning site along with the videos they have on YouTube makes it clear how to accomplish things.

One thing that has bothered me is that I’m on macOS the fonts look terrible!

I had a hunch that Wwise uses Wine to run on macOS so, after some Googling around, I found some steps to get higher resolution font support with Wine on macOS. The steps are slightly different when you’re doing it from within Wwise so I thought it would be useful to share those with others.

Start Wwise

In the macOS menubar for the app click on File > Run Command…

In the dialog that comes up enter
regedit
for the Command and click Run

Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Mac Driver

Click on Edit > New > String Value

Set Name to
RetinaMode

Set Data to
Y

Close Regedit

In the macOS menubar for the app click on File > Run Command…

In the dialog that comes up enter
winecfg
for the Command and click Run

Navigate to the Graphics tab

Change the Screen Resolution from
96
to
192

Note: You may need to use the Tab key to navigate to the input for this value

Close Wine Configuration

Close and Restart Wwise

Enjoy smooth fonts!

Thanks to mcxiaoke for his Blurry font issue with Wine 2.0 on macOS 10.12.2 GitHub Gist explaining how to fix this.

The theme of the jam was “Parasite” and I found myself on a very productive and impressive team. The end result was a game titled Rent-Seek-Kill.
